Knowing the roots and history of your own home is important. That's the idea behind Soul of Canada, which Randal Kabatoff createdto help Canadians stay in touch with their history. The multimedia publishing company puts together appealing history showcases by weaving stories together with archival photos. “I thought it was important for Albertans to know more about the communities they live in,” says Randal. “This is where we plant our feet and breathe the air, and enjoy the quality of life. I felt that it was important to get a greater sense of the nature and the history of the people that came before us.”
The showcases take different forms. They include timelines, calendars or framed photos that profile milestone events, but it's the stories themselves that elevate the pieces. “You look at the photograph and it’s nice, but what is the story?” says Randal. “We wanted to give people more of a historical insight by combining words, stories, photographs and different media.” Soul Of Canada does extensive research to put these stories together, using university and provincial archives, museums and other sources to piece the puzzles together.
