Inspiration for a great career can come from unexpected places. For Tanya Pimienta, the inspiration to groom dogs came from a conversation with her mom. A friend’s wife was looking for a grooming assistant. “She took me under her wing and taught me everything I know,” Tanya says. After discovering that she was a natural in grooming, Tanya's skills and tenacity gained her a large client list within six months of starting work.
Working through different salons in Calgary, she took a course in business and finally opened her own salon in April 2014. “When I started grooming, I realized that it could be a viable business to support myself with and love doing at the same time,” Tanya says. “After I married my husband we bought a house and converted part of it to be the Puppy In My Pocket salon.”
