Cutting hair is a passion that runs in the Signore family. Rocky Signore, co-owner of The Callingwood Hair Company, is one of five siblings who has followed in his eldest brother, Pasquale’s, footsteps. The family came to Canada in 1967, but Rocky remembers his brother hanging around the barbershop back in Italy. Rocky saw his brother set up shop shortly after settling in Canada and was inspired to do the same.
In 1996, Rocky seized the opportunity to purchase The Callingwood Hair Company from his brother Mike, who started the neighbourhood salon in 1986. Today Rocky and his wife, Gail, are owners while Mike does part-time duties as a hairstylist. “We’re a family salon. We get seniors to kids,” says Rocky.
One may wonder if the five siblings ever get together to help each other in their respective salons. “We seem to be okay [on our own]. We stay out of each other’s hair,” says Rocky with a laugh.
