Barb MacKenzie says the name of her southwest Calgary boutique – Piece on Peace – reflects the store’s mandate through its play on words. “I’ve always been about the piece, or the product. ‘On peace’ is about being sustainable,” she explains, adding there’s a natural and/or handmade component to everything Piece on Peace sells.
Barb started her company in 2014 under the moniker Sundara Lotus. She designed and made one-of-a-kind clothes, selling them at markets and pop-up shops around town. In the spring of 2016, however, she changed the name of her clothing line to Piece on Peace, and she christened her bricks-and-mortar store with that same appellation when she opened its doors in August 2016. The store sells her own clothing line, as well as a wide range of other products, all of which are made sustainably.
