“Bagpipes,” says Joe McDonald of Bagpiper for Hire, “bring a unique flavour to any event.” From Scottish, Irish and South Asian weddings, to wakes, special occasions and parties, Joe loves to bring his signature sound wherever it takes him.
“It’s fun to play outside of their natural context,” he says, speaking of course of the instrument’s traditional Celtic roots, “I played at a Japanese ski resort three years in a row. I love the reaction it gets.” It’s obvious that it’s Joe’s love for the bagpipes that makes him such a remarkable performer, coupled with his willingness and desire to push the instrument’s boundaries and deliver something unexpected.
“I do enjoy the tradition,” he admits, “but I really love the excitement of the instrument.”
