To say that Heather Jenkins cares about sustainable fishing is an understatement. It’s her raison d’être at 1 Fish 2 Fish Fresh Seafood Market, and a practice she’s fought hard for since she first opened the market. “I started doing my research and cutting out different items from our product list,” she explains, “and that was before Ocean Wise was around.”
Sustainability was such a big deal for Heather that she became one of the leaders in implementing and supporting sustainable fishing practices in the Lower Mainland. In fact, she was the one who initially approached Ocean Wise, and not the other way around. “I was so pleased when all these programs came in,” she recalls. “We were actually the Lower Mainland’s first Ocean Wise seafood market because, when I approached them, they said, ‘we only do restaurants.’” But when Ocean Wise came to 1 Fish 2 Fish, they were amazed to find that the market’s inventory was at about 98 per cent sustainable.
Heather cares so passionately about sustainable fishing because she realizes the environmental impact it will have on the future. “It’s the last wild resource that we have,” she stresses, “so we need to look after it.”
called store several times , not even once they ever bothered to pick up the phone , left message and nobody bordered again to call back . I guess business is booming for this guys so recommend not to bother them
I miss this store. I recently moved to Chilliwack and I am in the process of finding a store that sells the fresh fish that I used to get from this store. So dependable and lots of choices.
