What a nice little spot! The food is well prepared and everything on the menu looks appetizing. They have a different fish special every day and it is always very good. On our last visit I ordered off the menu and I was not disappointed at all.. I had the veggie wrap and instead of fries I had it with the taco soup, and it was very good. We will be back for sure!
Another bar on Augusta, except this one does not focus on craft beer. Instead, it just focuses on being a bar. And it is a good one at that. Fairly standard pub decorum is the order of the day, and it is a fairly small place (as all the places on this strip tend to be). I find it gets packed rather quickly, and it can be a bit noisy. They have bands that play sometimes and the ones I have seen are entertaining. I usually order wings, and the 3 alarm fire sauce is very good, the wings are large, and well priced. The Veggie Panini I had recently was well prepared, spicy, crispy, with a lot of flavours going on. Most other folks' food looked great as well. Our waitress was very friendly and quite efficient given how busy this place was on my last visit. They don't have enough craft beer to keep me coming back on a weekly basis, but I'll swing in from time to time.
We went to the Pleasant Plucker for a bite before a show . We are from out of town and went here based on past reviews. We wanted good, but unique options in our dining. My husband is a burger man and really loved the hand-made bison burger. Great portions and great beef taco soup as a side...great fresh flavours and amazing pleasant quick service from the ladies that evening. I ordered the tuna steak with rice and vegetables...unique for a pub I’d say! All the sides were wonderful and had exciting punches of flavour and seasonings...met my tastes BUT the tuna was cooked too well and was tough. I mentioned this to the server and she promptly got me another platter, no charge, and also reduced our bill by $5. Amazing consideration for guests. The tuna steak was done wonderfully the second time and the price could not be beat. We were so pleased, love the ambience of the front dining area, but it was so busy we had to sit in the lesser-ambient back dining area...but the number of diners that appeared there so early at night (5 pm!!!) told us this was a popular venue so be there early if you want a great table and a spot to eat. We loved it!! Delicious, varied menu, great staff, great prices, great location.
I started working in the James South neighbourhood late last year and have always enjoyed checking out local eateries. I read some reviews on the pubs/restaurants along Augusta one day before lunch and had to find out if the rave reviews about the bison burger at The Pheasant Plucker lived up to the hype. And do they ever! There is no question: this is the best burger I've had to date. I love the flavour of the bison, the fact that you can tell it was made fresh right there, and that it's grilled to perfection. Top it off with a nice bun (that unfortunately usually disintegrates before I get to the end) and fresh toppings and you've got a winner. Love that burger. It's become the burger I compare all others to now. I have since introduced my co-workers to the pub and we often order out from there for lunch, and on occasion dine in. We even joined in on the St. Patty's Day celebrations this year there. (Had the fish & chips that day with a nice glass of Guinness.) The two young guys that I work with have also fallen for the bison burger. Their Caesar salad is quite good too (looks like they make their own croutons), and a friend had the Reuben and it looked great. Great food overall... and a nice little pub to boot.
My coworker and I were looking for a new place to try... we are rather happy with our choice! After looking at the menu online, we had a few dishes in mind of what we wanted. When we got there, all the tables were taken, however the server told us to have a seat at the bar and he'd get us a table rather quickly - and that he did! We were seated in no time and got a chance to review the menu again. I ordered the Bison Shepherds Pie and my coworker ordered the Suicide Wings with a side of fries. Delicious! The service was great, although the place is quite small, they did still have their hands full with a full house, but the atmosphere was so relaxed that you felt very taken care of. My shepherds pie came with a delicious house salad which was wonderfully dressed! The pie itself was quite tasty and I would definitely think of ordering it again - once I've gone back to try out other dishes of course! My coworker loved the wings and the unique spice that gave it that extra punch of flavour. The fries were you're regular pub fries - why would you expect something different?
Been here several times, and I have to say that the atmosphere in this place just screams genuine UK Pub! From the exposed stone walls & wooden beams, to the ghost stories on the menu, this place is sure to please. Great Patio as well!! The food is good, typical pub food. Good wings, as well. Check it out for a beer and snacks, and be sure to stay for the patio party at night!
This is the perfect little pub, I had a great time the food and the people were wonderful
General Ambiance? Nice and Homey Nachos? beyond reproach, Wait Staff? easy on the eyes but god help you if you voice an opinion thats anything less then positive regarding overcooked, poorly presented and confusing food. And then? be prepared for abysmal service and rudeness. And folks no one needs that treatment, let alone on a strip where there are a handful of other bars you can spend your cash in. This reviewer is well travelled and ALWAYS polite to staff and other patrons alike, and can only hope that a little more attention is paid to customer relations in the future. P.S. It cant be THAT hard to keep the fruit flies at bay can it? P.S.S how about decorating the miniscule back room to match the ambiance of the front room?
Even though a football match was being watched we were given a nice seat by the window. We were then treated to a delicious lunch with the best lamb I have ever had and the mash was perfect. Kudos to the chef. My friend (from Scotland) was very impressed with his square sausage and egg. The servers were very professional, polite and not to hard on the eyes. The caramel cake and sauce was were to die for. Excellent all around.
This is my second sampling of the Pheasant's Bison Burger since its menu was revamped, and all I can say is if they keep it up, they may just be producing what is Hamilton's best burger! Concerns include huge extra cost for switching salads (nearly $3 for caesar or greek substitution) but expecially the extra for caramelized onions. Bacon-wrapped scallops were tasty but dijon mayo dipping sauce was a bit sweet and withoiut character. Greens and vinaigrette was a nice touch with app. Portion was reasonable. Service was slow considering it was the slow part of lunch hour and well... it was just two burgers. Still... HUGE potential -- again -- to be crowned king of all burgers in the Hamilton area.
The food was great but the server took my friend's half-finished salad away right as he was going in for a bite!
Great Food....Nice Girls....Cold drinks....Great Music
Best Pub in Hamilton hands down. But they should have kept Tennents on draft!!!!!!
This place is cozy and has great food and service. Love the patio and quality service. Highly Recommended.
This place is awesome. The food is great. Much of it is homemade including the Garden salad dressing which is awesome. The weekend breakfast is always good. The servers are wonderful ladies and the dodge ball person who posted earlier needs to realize that they are probably rude and are therefore ignored. The Pheasant survives on the many regulars who frequent on a daily basis. Also, if your lucky, Jonny Fischer will be there.
I'm thinking cmw, in the post above, forgot to check the numbers for the food. My wife and I attended Pheasant Plucker and ate a superb meal. As an Englishman I like to think I know my fish and chips, and I have to say that theb fish at Pheasant Plucker is amongst the best I have ever eaten, and without a doubt the best I have eaten during my 12 years in Canada. It was moist, flaky, and exquisitely white without a hint of fishiness!!! How do they do that so far from the sea? I would also like to know how they keep food prices so cheap!!! $8.95 for 2 pieces of sublime haddock is amazing, and infinitely better than any of the competition round these parts. The mushroom burger and samosas were also excellent, and it is very refreshing to see vegetarians catered for so well. If you want the usual bar fare of chicken wings and stodgy pizza avoid the food at Pheasant Plucker, but if you appreciate food cooked with care, and enjoy quality service, then this should be your first port of call.
The fish and chips here are the best you will ever find, anywhere! The haddock came piping hot with no hint of fishiness. The pints here are wonderful as well..just the right temperature. This place makes you feel very welcome. I will be sure to come back often.
My friends and I visit the Plucker after dodgeball on Thursdays, but we also visit regularly on weekends as well. From ownership all the way down to staff, the Plucker is first class. I have to say to A. Cranston that it's pretty unbelievable that you would write a negative review about a place that sponsors a league in which you participate and gives you FREE FOOD every week. Maybe if you were a little nicer to the servers, they'd be nicer to you as well. We've always been treated wonderfully by the staff and they are the reason we keep going back to the Plucker regularly.
I have been here often and the waitresses are so rude. It is disgusting. I am on a Dodgeball team that this pub sponsors so we are encouraged to come here but the waitresses act like we are an inconvenience. They forget to put our food orders in and we have to go looking for them to pay our bill because they rarely come back to see if we need refills. Our entire team refuses to EVER go back.
The cook, Jonny Fischer, is excellent. He always has been and he always will be. You must try the food here. The tandoori chicken wrap is fabulous and so are the spring rolls. And the wings are HUGE! Go to this pub.
