CrossFit has gotten a bit of a bad rap. Chances are, you’ve heard something unsavoury about the sport – a twisted this, a broken that – and followed it up with an eyeroll. It’s easy to sensationalize a new sport when people aren’t quite sure what to make of it, or how to go about it safely. But CrossFit is no longer a newborn and over the past five years, this workout of all workouts has truly come into its own. Enter CrossFit YKV, a boutique fitness centre located in Toronto’s Yorkville hood.
In addition to open gym hours, and intriguingly titled Workouts of the Day (an hour-long CrossFit sequences that changes every day, so your workout never gets stale), CrossFit YKV also offers a slew of training classes that cater to any skill level. CrossFit Foundations is a basic 101, and if you're a gymnast, the fitness centre also has one of the top gymnastic and basing tumbling classes in town. If lifting is more your move, the Strongman and powerlifting classes will help take you to your next max, while CrossFit Unloaded works more with high-intensity speed and agility exercises and less heavyweight work.
