The decor is stunning (especially inside) and the restaurant offers such a fun vibe. Highly recommend for an energetic date spot.
Great food but oye, the wait, the wait, staff are a complete train wreck here! Disorganized and don't have a clue how to properly communicate with customers!
Ugh - don't have your wedding brunch here. WE booked in 6 months ahead - it was a complete disaster in every way. We were so excited to have it there (got married in the distillery ...thought day after brunch - boiler house!). It was a nightmare..they lost our guest gifts..we had guests standing cause they couldn't find seating for our BOOKED event...we had a single wait staff for 36 folks...and they wouldn't let people pay as they left..any part over 10 apparently..which they didn't say..so we had to collect ..yes collect money ..and they forgot to tell us the gratuity wasn't in..so we ended up paying the 18% grat. for 36 guests...nightmare beyond words for a special event....just don't do it.
I love Boiler House! Chic atmostphere with great live music. We had the Winterlicious (2008) menu and absolutely loved every bite. Highly recommend this restaurant all year round! Can't wait for Summerlicious.
I had tempered my expectations for The Boiler House after reading some reviews, but in the end I was blown away and will have to add this restaurant to my list of favourites. The food was terrific. The steak was cooked to perfection; wonderfully blackened on the outside and deliciously moist and medium-rare on the inside. The potato side was really tasty and well-presented. The maple-drizzled cheesecake was great but the creme brulee was even better. We were treated to a tasty tuna ceviche amuse-bouche beforehand as well. The drink menu is well-rounded and there's a lot of variety on the wine menu. The restaurant space is gorgeous and elegant and a perfect fit in the Distillery District. It manages to feel warm and cosy while maintain a huge, open space. For more intimacy, go for one of the booths. The lighting is just right and the weekend jazz band adds to a great mood. I found the service to be quite good and very relaxed - there was no rush whatsoever. The main course arrived before we had finished our drinks, which worried me slightly, but in the end we lounged about for two and a half hours. Our waiter brought me a glass of port twice as expensive as the one I ordered because he felt the ten-year was "a little too watery," but still charged me for the cheaper stuff. It was a nice touch. All told I think that this had to have been one of the finest overall dining experiences I've ever had. I tip my hat to you, Boiler House!
Overall a good place, with great atmosphere and food. While I know it's small I hate that they don't take interac. They do take credit cards, but not interac, so that meant trudging over to the white label machine and getting charged $6 in fees. Our bill was over $400 and I have an issue with them penny pinching on the interac fees. I'm assuming this is to skim and under report sales, but pain in the ass getting to machine etc., If you take visa and mastercard why not interac! ;)
All i gotta say is that there is a large amount of great Chefs in that kitchen making some great food! Great service, food, and really wish i lived close by so i can visit more often!
I was a little apprehesive when I booked there because I'd read mixed reviews. The Boiler House exceeded our expectations! We've done a lot of fine dining, and this restaurant does not disappoint. The atmosphere is unique and beautiful, and our service was impeccable.
The setting and brunch was respectable. But this was unfortunately ruined by the poor attitude of the hostess and servers. We were welcomed by a hostess who told us she had " no idea " how long it would be for a table and to wait outside because they are not open for another 10 minutes. Ten minutes later she claimed she did not recall ever speaking to me. No waiting list. No instructions. Just told to wait outside indefinitely. We already felt unwelcome and confused. This carried over to our server. We got less than the minimum. Dear manager, please review the basics of customer service with your staff. A friendly server can turn a mediocre meal into a pleasant experience and repeat business. If you cannot tolerate poor service or attitude do not take chance at the boiler house. If you do not care about that, the buffet brunch was fresh and satisfying. We will not be returning.
A group of 10 friends and I visited the Boiler House this weekend. Personally, I would rank this is as one of the best meals I've had outside of my own home. The portion sizes were perfect, the seasoning was perfect and the combinations worked beautifully. I did not score the food as being perfect because there were a few flaws in the execution. One example was in the size of the lamb sirloin I was served. I asked for pink (medium - or mostly pink, slightly red center) but because the sirloin had a very widely varying thickness, it did not cook evenly and so i ended up with some pieces that were medium-well, some that were pink and most that were rare (red). Across the table, there were other examples of inconsistent cooking even when the meat's thickness WAS uniform. Other than that, the food was delicious, flavourful, unique and definitely worth the prices and the visit. In terms of service, there needs to be a significant improvement - the waiters seem uncaring, and rushed to the point of negligence. The service was indeed adequate but definitely sub-standard to even restaurants that charge MUCH less. I wasn't a fan of the decor as, aside from the dim lighting, it reminded me of a school cafeteria. The saving grace to the ambience was the live jazz and large, bustling dining room - which, in itself, is a testament to the fact that the Boiler House, despite needing some slight improvements, is an overall great dining experience where the food will unquestionably outshine its small flaws. I will definitely return to try the other entrees.
Best All round restaurant to Toronto. A must visit. I was over impressed. Toronto's best kept secret.
Most likely the best overall restaurant in the city. Where can you get great food, wine, service, decor, music all in one and have fun. I love to dine not be judged like some restaurants do. Susur & Jamie & Chris look out this is the future of dining.
Incredible evening !!! amazing live jazz ( free ) everything from the hostess greating us to the servers knowledge was great. Food was delicious, halibut for me, steak for friend. Highly recommend Mathew
The food was excellent and the atmosphere very nice. We enjoyed the live music. I had the tuna which was excellent and a salad as an appetizer. The wait staff really needs to be trained better. The waiter didn't write anything down so when they ran out of the soup of the day, he needed to ask everyone what we had ordered to change the order. The kitchen then lost the order and we had to tell him our order a second time. We asked for separate checks when we first got there and when we received the bill, it was all together. We then asked him to separate them and he asked us again what we ordered. In the kind of restaurant this is, I would not have expected to do this. It was disapointing service and I'm not sure I would go back because of this.
Great overall dining experience. Tuna was incredible. Loved the Live Jazz as well !! I love The Distillery as well. esp at night
The restaurant is beautiful with exposed bricks and wonderful decor. We got there and our table was not ready, so we were told to wait at the bar. The bartender seemed reluctant to serve us drinks for some reason since "we didn't have a table". The service needs work at this place - which is why I wouldn't go back. The server didn't give us the list of specials (apparently there were specials, since we overheard the waiter at the next table tell those diners about them). We didn't get bread, water or steak knives - we had to ask for all these things, remind the staff to top up water etc. Those things should be seemless. My husband said the service reminded him of a Denny's. At the prices they charge $30 for entrees, the service needs to be better. The jazz was very loud and my husband and I could not speak during dinner without yelling or repeating every word we said 3 or 4 times. This is not the place for an imtimate dinner (which is what we were looking for). My steak was good - but the potato that came with it was burned. Inexcusible for such an expensive restaurant.
