There’s a slew of trendy restaurants trying to take advantage of the up-and-coming vibe in Toronto’s Junction area, but North of Bombay is not one of them. Just the opposite: brothers Amar and Gurdeep Singh brought a little culture and caché to the Junction long before it was the cool place to be. North of Bombay began as Piccadily in 1989 when a name with a British-sounding flair seemed more palatable to the local clientele. “We were the first Indian food a lot of our customers had ever tried,” Amar recalls. “At first they tried milder, sweeter dishes like the butter chicken. All these years later, they have developed their palates to include much more spice and heat.”
As the Junction continues to gentrify, many older residents move to quieter, more removed areas, however, many of them return to North of Bombay as part of their family tradition. One family who had been weekly regulars, and now live in Milton, come back every Mother’s Day and for family celebrations. For them, North of Bombay defines the neighbourhood where their family grew up.

Absolutely will come back! .. I drove around to see what kind of restaurants were there and happened to see North of Bombay. Very big place! .. the owner were friendly but let’s get down to the point. The butter chicken on rice is tender and juicy. My mouth is watering thinking about it haha but keep up the good work! I love your food James
I’m actually new to the neighbourhood and wanted to Try out some food at Indian Restaurants and I came across this place! Nice and spicy!! ..The driver, the server, the owner and the kitchen staffs are all friendly. Made my food on time and it tastes deliciously great :) I been eating at this restaurant and order delivery. Very nice people and very tasty I will go back to this restaurant and I hope this place never closed down :)
Hands down the best Butter Chicken out there. Just make sure to get it spicy. The mild is still tasty, but the spicy is where it's at. The service is friendly, there's CHEAP Green P parking nearby (free on Sundays). It's just the best kept secret of the Junction.
Great atmosphere, clean spacious restaurant. The vegetarian pekora appetizer was very fresh and flavourful, 6 of them for $5.95 was a good way to start off. Shrimp was a bit overcooked but tasty nonetheless. Saag paneer was nice and spicy... we asked for 'hot' and were pleasantly surprised with the spice level. Extra hot-sauce was brought to the table just in case we needed it. The naan was awesome. Red wine was decent. Would visit again to try the samosas and beef vindaloo which is mentioned in some reviews below. Friendly service, good music, recommended.
I love this place for good, reasonably priced Indian food. It's never busy, but they seem to do a good take-out business. Creamier dishes - such as paneer makhani or butter chicken - are the best bet. Service is always prompt and friendly.
Love this place. Veggie or non-veggie both are finger licking good. Freshly cooked as per your taste. Food & service both are excellent. Nice and clean family place. Keep it up Guys.
We have been going to this place for many years and it has always been great food. We have never experienced anything but great service and enjoy the atmosphere. From the other reviews it looks like the delivery service can be lacking but we usually eat in. For the occasional times we have picked up food for take out it has always been on time.
Honestly, it was a great experience always. all my guests enjoyed very much. I would recomend everyone.

I'm so suprised when somebody compair their dishes with some worst places. I have been patern to this restauant for 15 Years and never ever had any complaint but what I find is the food is superb CAN'T even thinkof compairing with other restaurants. I have tried many different places but I'm always satisfied here. I would strongly recomend everyone to give a try If you havn't.
Exceptional! Simply amazing. Atmosphere is great and service is Pleasent. I recomend to everyone.
I visit at North of Bombay Once a week since 1998 for pick up. Me and my wife love this place. It's economical and quality of food is well worth going there. I strongly recomend this place.
Food and service was excellent. All of my friends really enjoyed. This was our first time ever Dine in experience in North of Bombay but always do take out and delivery. we always had great service. owners are very friendly and very pleasant.
excellent!! excellent!! amazing food great service and atmosphere. I also get delivery. everthing so perfect packing is great and always had great take out experience as well. i recomend to all my friends.
We have always ordered for delivery and never had any problems the food was alway good...will order again.
My friends and I have been customers of NofB for a couple of years now. We find the food to be excellent, but recently the customer service has become abominable. DO NOT call for delivery if you want to eat within two hours of ordering and be prepared to call at least two times to check on your order AND be verbally abused by the owner if you ask why your order is late.
The place looks wonderful the service at the restaurant is amazing. However, delivery is nothing but rediculous! We've ordered three times all for dinner and all three times it took over 90 minutes for delivery when told it would take an hour or less. Each time I had to call at lest twice to check on the status and each time was told "its on its way right now about 10 minutes" Only to be left to wait another 20 minutes or more. Its too bad they dont get better as I'm sure they would bring in more business, as we (and a few of our friends) dont do delivery anymore because of this.
Butter chicken was very good, but not out of this world. Naan was good. Chana (curried chick peas) was not great at all. Had a burnt taste, and not a flavourful blend of spices. Very good portion sizes, and recyclable containers, this is good. (Not styrofoam) Service on the phone was pleasant and nice, but delivery took 1.5 hours.
WORST SERVICE EVER! I cannot believe the sheer imcompetence and rudeness of the staff of this restaurant. The food is fine, but the horrendous attitude that was displayed by the staff and management of this resaurant will prevent me from EVER ordering from here again!
Well, I cannot speak to the food as my order never arrived. I use to support this restaurant and order regularly but will never order from them again. I placed my order shortly after 6:00 p.m. and was told it would be one hour. After 90 minutes, I phoned to find out the status of my order, I was told by the waitress that it was on its way. After another 30 minutes passed by, I called back and was told that the waitress had told me the wrong information and that it was still in the kitchen and would be delivered shortly. That was two hours after my order had been placed. I then spoke to the manager to express my concern. I was told that I would receive no financial compensation and that I could have the food, if I wanted it. I asked if it might be complimentary as I had several dinner guests who had been waiting. He was offended by my request, even when I pointed out how often I had supported his restaurant. He became quite rude and told me that his food is "precious" and I was not "deserving". I should also add that I was hung up on three times by the manager and waitress. Very disappointing and not worth the effort.
