When did you last meet someone who gave up the career they went to university for in order to walk a group of beloved dogs? When Adria Kowlasky, owner of Tailwaggers, made the decision to forgo a promising future as a teacher in order to enter the world of dog care, she was following her heart.
“While I was training to be a teacher at the University of Toronto in the early 90s, I met a lady walking several dogs in High Park,” Adria explains. “I got talking to her and discovered that she was a professional dog walker and the only one in the west end.”
Dog-lover Adria started to work for her part-time around her classes, grew to love it and found that by the time graduation rolled round, she faced a dilemma; enter full-time teaching or dedicate herself to her work in canine care instead. In 1996, she opted for the latter and the rest is doggy history.
