There are plenty of hardworking Greek families in Edmonton who have turned a love of their heritage into a passion for cooking phenomenal Greek cuisine. These Edmonton spots will make you want to smash a plate with glee (but only after you’ve licked it clean).
Big portions, friendly service and great food are just a few of the reasons this place is well-known throughout Edmonton. The roast lemon chicken is a very popular choice, as is the chicken souvlaki pita platter. This family-run spot is located downtown in Scotiabank Place, making it a great lunchtime option for anyone looking for a speedy but delicious meal. There are also plenty of gluten-free options on the menu.
Located near Festival Place in Sherwood Park, this family-run restaurant fuses Greek and Western cuisine into an unforgettable menu. The sleek interior sets the mood for a lovely evening, as does the great service. Their lemon rice soup is to die for and the saganaki is perfection (fried cheese often is, but still). While it’s not a traditional Greek dish, their Mediterranean steak salad is worth writing home about. The menu helpfully indicates which dishes can be made gluten-free.
This romantic restaurant on Whyte Avenue has plenty of cozy tables for date night and the basement, home to a martini bar called Kasbar, is an awesome place to host a birthday party or a large group. The food is delectable (especially the horiatiki salad) and reasonably priced. It’s also a good place to spot local celebs – I was once seated at the table next to my childhood hero. He seemed to be enjoying his meal too.
This is a quiet, cozy place, perfect for a date or a peaceful meal. There will be no Greek belly dancers wiggling their way over to your table here. But they have a huge menu, full of seafood, souvlaki and casseroles. Their house speciality is the slow-roasted lamb but if you’re feeling hungry enough to eat your own arm, go for the Grub Med ribs, a whole rack of baby back pork ribs. Add pita and hummus. Repeat.
