Korean barbecue is both a meal and an event. Bow Bulgogi House

The Bow Bulgogi House offers both Korean and Vietnamese food. No need to man the barbecue at this pint-sized place, as the chef does the cooking for you. As the name suggests, beef bulgogi is the house specialty, but pork and chicken are also served.

Korean Village Restaurant

One of Calgary’s oldest Korean restaurants, Korean Village is easy to find, as it’s situated just south of the Calgary tower on 10th Avenue Southwest. Korean standards served with an array of complimentary side dishes (banchan) include transparent chapchae noodles with vegetables and pork, kimchi stew, spicy chicken as well as several grill-it-yourself tabletop barbecue dishes.

Just off Macleod Trail and Midlake Boulevard Southeast, Moon Korean BBQ serves a meaty array of barbecue dishes. Evening barbecue entrees include beef bulgogi, pork ribs and soy chicken. The osam bulgogi with spicy pork, squid and veggies is highly recommended. For lunch, try a bulgogi barbecue bento box.

An authentic Korean hideaway on downtown Calgary’s west side, Don Day doesn’t go easy on the go chu jang (red pepper paste), which is the Old Country’s signature spicy sauce. The restaurant features both tabletop and portable barbecue units on which to grill your own beef bulgogi, beef galbi (short ribs), pork shoulder or a cauldron of delectable pork bone soup.

On a cold, snowy Edmonton night, nothing says lovin’ like a cup of hot chocolate.
