Accessibility isn’t a problem for these Edmonton restaurants and farmers’ markets, making them a great place to socialize, share a meal or go shopping.
B-Bim-Baab is a Korean restaurant located in south east Edmonton’s industrial area. While you’re waiting for the meal to arrive, you get banchan – small side dishes of seaweed salad, bean sprouts and kimchi. For a main, I would recommend the chicken B-Bim-Baab, which comes in a sizzling hot bowl and is mixed at your table by the server. The B-Bim-Baab was delicious and incredibly filling – there was enough food for several meals.
Under the High Wheel is my absolute favourite breakfast and brunch spot in the city. With both sweet and savoury options, it will please any diner. I order the traditional breakfast with two eggs your way, toast (baked fresh at Bonjour Boulangerie), cranberry maple sausage and hash browns. They also have delicious Belgian waffles with Chantilly cream and berries for those who like a sweet brunch, plus plenty of other options. Be sure to order a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.
Izakaya Tomo is always a top pick when I’m looking for a Japanese street food experience. I’ve tried most items on the menu and enjoy all of them, particularly the beef tataki, tuna tataki, tako yaki and a hot bowl of niku udon. Save room for dessert and try the green tea ice cream sandwich. To avoid a lineup, go later at night, as they’re open until midnight or later, depending on the day of the week.
Café Mosaics is a vegan and vegetarian restaurant on Whyte Avenue. Inside the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. While I haven’t tried many dishes here, the one I have had is the secret burrito, which is tofu, quinoa, rice, spinach, mushrooms, Gouda cheese and their special teriyaki sauce, wrapped in a tortilla and topped with sour cream and salsa. Yum! I’m planning to go back to try some of the new items on their menu soon.
MKT offers more than 120 brands of beer, and sources fresh, local ingredients for its menu. The atmosphere is noisy and fun, and during the summer, they have a large patio where you can enjoy a beer in the sunshine. MKT is open seven days a week and also serves brunch.
