In 1992, Lee-Anne Neufeld discovered she had celiac disease. The discovery could have held her back from enjoying her favourite treats, but she wasn’t about to allow that to happen. She rolled up her sleeves and got to work. Mixing and preparing gluten-free treats helped fill her cravings.
Lee-Anne’s determination to bake pastries she could eat led her to do the same for others. She began selling her gluten-free treat through vendor stalls she ran at various farmer’s markets through Edmonton – places where “[I] got to know my customers,” she says. And the feedback from customers helped push her to eventually take on an even bigger venture: opening her own bakery and café, Celebrate, Gluten Free,or CGF as it’s also known.
