This restaurant has become a staple for me when in Guelph. Consistency and quality keeps me coming back. The lunch buffet is fresh, reasonable variation for what it is. The owners have a higher standard than most and it shows through. I have had dinner only once ,a la carte, same fresh prepared quality and standard. It seems easy to do good food and it is often overlooked when it is done consistently. Praise for the owners , worth patronizing , they earn your business.
I have been to very many restaurants in area. I heard all good things about Diwa and wanted to try this place. After a little hasitation I decided to take my guests to Diwa on Thursday night. I did not expect them to be that busy but the host girl managed to give us a table within 5 minuts. I had little relief that the place was very clean and nicely decorated. Our drinks and appetizers (Veg platter) came within 10 minuts. Our platter was out of this world, very nicely garnished. Our food took about 40 minuts which is understandable for authentic food. I have been to many Indian places but the food we had here was amazing and fresh, it was very nicey presented and the spice level was just right. Diwa, "You are the best.................
Diwa (or Diva) inhabits a space on Speedvale and the Hanlon in Guelph formerly occupied by a series of average Indian restaurants. Diwa has raised the bar. Buffet (offered daily at lunchtime) contains a good mix of items, veg and non-veg, Indian standards (tandoori chicken, samosas) and some creative additions like mushroom do pyaza. Naan is done well (not true of many places). In terms of a la carte, we've found some hit or miss. A navratan korma looked like it was made with a bag of frozen mixed veggies and palak/saag paneer (cheese squares and spinach/greens) was plain though aloo gobhi (potatoes and cauliflower) was good. We stick to certain favorites that we reorder regularly as well as the buffet for dine-in. Guelph has been looking for a good Indian restaurant, and with Diwa, we have it, as the 50+ Restaurantica reviews indicate at this date. Hint: The grocery next door (which shares a kitchen with Diwa) makes tasty chana bhatura (chickpeas and fried flatbread) as well as samosas at a great price.
My boyfriend and I went to Diwa based on reviews from this site, and were we ever glad we did! From the moment we walked in it was full of pleasant surprises, from the pretty atmosphere to the excellent staff. Our waitress was really friendly and helped us choose our meal, even after we just ordered water to drink (often a turn-off for wait-staff!). We had pakoras as an appetizer and they were amazing, filled with delicious vegetables (and not too much potato, yay!) and only $3.50! The chicken tikka was deliciously seasoned and the home-made cottage cheese in the saag paneer was creamy and succulent. Everything by far exceeded our expectations, including the presentation of the food (some nice ornamental touches). We definitely got more than our money's worth and will be back next time we are in Guelph!
I have been to Diwa Classica twice for the lunch buffet and really enjoyed everything about the restaurant. The food was great, the service was great and the place was very clean and inviting. I will be back and plan to bring my friends to a wonderful dining experiance.
