I really like this place for authentic greek food with great service to boot. Food is tasty and served quickly and they always try to make you happy. The Htipidi (I have no idea how to pronounce it) is SO yummy!
I usually order the same thing for lunch now that I am a vegetarian, and that is the 'True Greek' with a village salad and Htipdi (spread made of feta cheese, roasted red peppers and garlic). I have tried most of their lunch menu however and have no complaints. I have eaten inside of the dining room once and service was adequate and accommodating to our large group. Lunch take-out service is always fast, correct and the staff are very friendly.
My wife and I accidentally showed up on a night where there happened to be a bellydancer. The place was packed and full of energy. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess was so accomodating and was able to seat us. We have been before and really enjoy the food and service. This is one of our 'top 3' favourite resturants. The portions are generous, the food is fresh and very good and they have the best service in the city. The bellydancing show was amazing!! Not sure when they are going to do it again, but it was a nice touch for a Saturday evening. As always - thanks again for a beautiful evening.
My husband and were debating whether we should eat at Three Kretans or Meditteraneo last night for dinner. We chose Three Kretans because it is close to our home and we hadn't visited in a while. (The last time we ate here it was mediocre, hence the long time between visits.) We ordered wine and beer and then our mains -- no appetizer because we generally find the portions to be generous and filling. My husband ordered the Gyros dinner -- small plate of food -- he felt the food was 'okay' -- more of a snack than a dinner. The rice was mushy and starchy. The salad was good and the meat was passable. I ordered the calamari dinner with salad and rice and vegetable. The rice was again, mushy and only about 1/4 cup portion size. The 'vegetable' was cold, limp 'roasted' red peppers that was probably plucked from a jar in the back. The calamari was the worst disappointment -- bland, white, mushy rings of uniform size with no flavour or seasoning. We thought that they were probably frozen and then revived via deep fryer. They were the WORST calamari I've ever eaten -- rubbery, huge in size, and unappetizing. I left several on my plate (along with the disgusting red peppers). Again, the salad was delicious. Our server, Rebecca, was lovely and tried her best, even apologising for the food. Not that it was her fault -- the 'chefs' in the back need to amend their methods. This is the second poor meal we've had there, and we won't be back. Next time, we'll just go to Meditteraneo.
My Husband and I always come to the Three Kretans with the in-laws. The service is always friendly and helpful and willing to accept our picky changes. The food is always divine. We leave satisfied and happy. We will keep coming back and recommend you do the same.
This was the first time my boyfriend and I had Greek food. The place wasn't busy when we first got there but became busy as the night went on. The service was great throughout. The waitress was friendly and took the time to explain the food as well as providing recommendations. We have gone back a few times because we wanted to try the variety of dishes that they offered. There was not a bad choice among anything that we ordered. The atmosphere is lively but homey as well. I'm not sure about the decor... but then again we don't eat the decor... :) The price is actually on the low end. Don't miss out on the homemade desserts... you can't go wrong on those either...
Since moving to the KW area we've been looking for restaurants to replace our favourites and although Three Kretans is good it's no substitute for Mykonos in London. We found the selection of Greek dishes a bit lacking in variety. The tzatziki was very good with lots of flavour and the right amount of garlic. The vegetarian platter lacked variety but everything on it was very good with the optional village salad upgade worth the extra cost. The Moussaka was flavourful and we really liked the crispy eggplant base. The baklava was delicious with an extra shot of cinnamon which gave it a nice kick. The chocolate cake, although not exactly Greek was delicious and not overly sweet or chocolatey (as if that's possible!). We would rate this restaurant great overall and will return.
After reading the great reviews, we decided to check the place out for a Saturday night meal. To be honest, I'm wondering where everyone else has eaten to give this place such a high rating. The place isn't bad by any means, but it's not spectacular, either. Arriving after the theatre crowd had already left, we shared the space with only two other tables. Our server was friendly and competent. The saganaki was quite good, but I've made better haloum at home. The gyro dinner had lots of meat, but the meat might have been a bit oily. The village salad (traditional Greek salad -- the kind without lettuce!) was quite nice, and the traditional starches (rice and potatoes) were just fine. The vegetarian moussaka was lackluster, its mashed potato topping a bit too dry and the vegetable filling lacking flavour. I also found myself wanting more béchamel sauce to balance the dryness of the potato. But was it unpleasant? Not at all. The desert was very good: a phyllo pastry filled with a cinnamon-honey custard. The kretans' mother does well with her desserts! Yes, the interior design is tacky, but isn't that what we expect from most Greek restaurants? The plastic flowers with the fake dew drops are spectacular!
I have been a 'regular' going to Three Kretans since they opened - probably well over 10 years ago, and when I saw the review posted below, I became very irked. I have not once had a bad experience. The owners are very friendly and always checking in on their customers. The place is always very clean. The food is always fresh and delicious and the service - one of the best in the city! We always get a huge OPA when we get Saganaki. Maybe 'Snitchener' was looking for some sort of fine dining experience??? This place isn't fine dining, it's a casual family owned Greek restaurant - and probably one of the most best managed restaurants that I have been to!
A group of us had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant this evening after a reccommendation made by the concierge at the Delta hotel. We made a reservation and were greeted warmly at the door and taken to our table. The restaurant was pretty busy. Within a few minutes our server came and introduced herself. She was friendly, and made reccommendations. We had a few bottles of Greek wine which was suprisingly good. Then, we ordered our appetizers and entées - all which came served hot. The food was plentiful and very fresh and flavourful. The lamb chops were one of the best I have ever tasted - seasoned and cooked perfectly. Although we were full, our server showed us their dessert tray which was a nice touch, and we ended up sharing a few. They were all fantastic - the majority homemade by the mom. We definitely will return, the service was excellent, the atmosphere great and the food - fantastic! It is obvious that the family who owns this place care for their customers, and it shows.
Two of us went here because it had great reviews and its really close to my place. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki and my friend ordered the Moussaka. I've never really had authentic greek food and I loved the Moussaka! The waitress was great and explained some of the food items on the menu. The meal was half salad which was nice and light. Mine came with the best Tzsiki sauce I've ever tasted! But overall the meal wasn't fantastic for the price and my friend was still hungry after a day full of Canoeing.
On of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had - especially for large group dining. We were a group of 30, it was for a work luncheon. We didn't have much time, so the restaurant made arrangements for us to preorder. The food was delicious and the service - seamless! Staff was very friendly and they have a great atmosphere. The only downfall was the parking and the place is a little bit hidden. During lunch hour, parking is limited (typical of downtown Kitchener) but we were re told about additional parking across the street at the KPL and the Centre in the Square. We were within walking distance, but a few chose to drive and weren't lucky in the parking dept. During dinner hours however, all lots are for the restaurant which is nice. None of our orders were mixed up and we even had time to relax, chat and have some coffee and dessert. For any baklava lovers, they have the best baklava ever - not too sweet and you could tell it was fresh (they make it themselves). Great job overall, will be going again for dinner.
The food was not bad but ordinary. We were disappointed since we had read the reviews. The waitress was very nice and helpful. It just seem to lack something, something different than regular Greek foods. Not sure if we will go back.
We had our work Christmas party here. I had never been to the restaurant before, and it is a bit hidden. There were 12 of us, and we were looked after from the moment we walked in. The restaurant itself is very bright, clean and accommodating. Our waiter, who was also one of the owners, was very polite and helpful. The restaurant was packed because there was something going on at the theatre, so you would think service and food would slide, however this was not the case. Our drinks, the wine that was reccommended, apps and entrees were excellent. To top it off, the desserts were amazing - made in house by the mom. The mother also went around checking on everyone which was a nice touch. This was a very nice place and I wll definitely return.
A good Greek restaurant, not the best, but quite good. The lamb, while tasty, was not quite as tender as I would have liked. Same for the chicken. Rice tasted like instant rice and was a little overcooked. Server was excellent. We liked the Greek-Aegean theme-decor.
And i mean every word of that title. To get to the Three Kretens, the way we went in, was through the hallways of a YWCA. Dark, tile floors, and we even passed by the restrooms for the gym. But once we walked into the restaurant, it became a magnificant night. The colours in this place are almost blinding. About this dinner for 2, my dear decided that we were having it... i'm not one to turn down food so thats what we had. A platter came out full of meet and greek touches. We recieved 2 lamb shanks, a huge chicked souvlaki, a huge pork souvlaki, a lasagna type thing with egg plant, and 2 greek randitions of cabbage rolls but with grape leaves, 2 piles of rice, potatos and taziki sauce. And once Jax was done eating, i was sure the plate went back empty. Our surver was amazing, explained everything to us, brought out a plate full of desserts for us to pick from. It was an amazing dinner, i wouldnt have changed a thing and i cant wait to go back.
This was my first time to this restaurant, I came across it driving by one day and decided to give it a shot since I love Greek food! It was a Friday, we had no reservations, and the place was almost packed. The lady at the door was very courteous and friendly and gave us a table right away. Our server was so nice and attentive, always checked on us, and most importantly the food was amazing! The best part was the dessert, I don't remember what it was called, but it came warm out of the oven and it had both custard and filo pastry, icing sugar and cinnamon. Will definitely go back!
I go here quite often for lunch. The keftethes and pakilia are great. Service is good, the place is clean, and cooking is quick.
The restaurant is tricky to find (it's on the side street in the basement), but inside it is beautiful, the service is good, and the food meets expectations. The Greek stew is very genuine with an excellent flavor, and comes with rice, grilled red pepper, and herbed potatoes. The starter soup of the house (the amlemong...) is also very good. They don't provide pita with the meals, so ask for it. I'll definitely dine there again.
It was my grandmothers 93rd birthday and this is her favourite restaurant so we took the family there. The staff was amazing, the food excellent and a great atmosphere. Our server sang Happy Birthday to grandma and even offered to take pictures of our group. We all had such a wonderful time. One of the owners even came around to make sure we enjoyed everything and that all our needs were catered to. Thank you to the staff for making this such a wonderful experience.
