An excellent Chinese restaurant in the Somerset...
An excellent Chinese restaurant in the Somerset Street tradition. Not fancy but clean and pleasant with tables in a number of different configurations to sit from two to large numbers. Food is reliably excellent and offers a huge variety of options. The fact that the restaurant is always full and usually full of diners of Chinese origin is a good sign!
My personal favourites? The Hot and Sour Soup is the best I've had anywhere. The lobster specials are wonderful. The barbecued duck is a generous half duck with wonderfully crispy, spicy skin and tender moistly seasoned meat. Deeelicious!
I've been to Jadeland many times. The food definitely draws me back, especially their version of the General Tso's Chicken!
The restaurant itself is fairly small, as are many of the great places along Somerset. Its not a quiet place, and there is often a linup of people inside/outside the restaurant waiting for tables or take-out. Also, making a reservations has never worked out for me, although you will get a table and often sooner than a lot of the people standing in line. It is not uncommon for them to ask the parties of 2 if they'd mind sharing a large 8 person table with some other parties of 2.
All in, its a great place with very tasty food, which is definitely the highlight. The service is not exceptional, but is everything you'd need in a small place like Jadeland.

The soup was excellent. Lots of chinese veggies and shredded chicken breast. Hot Chilli Pepper sauce lifted the broth. The "Rainbow Noodles" was superb. Lots of seafood, shrimp, scallops, squid, chicken, pork and vegetables with vermicelli in the natural stir sauce. Soy sauce and Chillis's gave it a boost. Chinese tea was excellent. 2 persons dined for under $20 including tip.
