Shawarma Palace is the best in Windsor, Their garlic sauce is delicious. The owner is really nice and so are the staff. It gets busy in there especially on saturday nights but that just proves how great their food is. everytime I go in there, which is a lot, it's clean. Shawarma is AMAZING !
After a busy night of being downtown ( a friend's birthday), another friend and I decided we should try this shawarma restuarant. Already tired from being absolutely sober during a night long adventure in Windsor's downtown drunkfest Saturdays, we happily waited in a line going out the door (evidently filled with more drunk people). Upon being next to order it appeared as though the servers had a line going; one to take the order and set up the bases for it, one to apply meat if desired, one to package and finally a person on cash. I placed my friend's order (a vegetarian wrap, lettuce pickles sauce) as well as mine (a chicken shawarma, lettuce and sauce) which seemingly is a farily easy order. We watched as they set our wraps up, correctly, but minded the rest until we (slowly) moved to the cash, upon paying I still had to wait a few minutes for our food (but I do understand given the circumstances of having a restuarant downtown and it being a Saturday night). We found a table which we had to clear ourselves as the entire staff was helping behind the counters and not anywhere else. Upon unwrapping our food we came to notice two completely different wraps, we brought it back and simply stated we must have been given some one elses order, but the 'chef' insisted that was our order. We told the person on cash our actual order, she shouted it the the first man and we sat down to wait. Finally our orders were back yet my friend's vegetarian had chicken in it (not only incorrect, but highly offensive to her). We took her wrap back and stated it was suppose to be without meat. The cashier agreed that's what she had heard and shouted to the 'chef', the chef angerily ripped the wrap out of my friend's hand and began making her a new one, Finally we sat down, yet again... only to reveal her wrap was without sauce... yet they had just gone over her order more than 3 times now... She shyly stared at it and shrugged it off stating she supposes they were just too busy and clearly she wasn't going to get what she wanted. I, quite shocked at all that had just occured walked straight to the chasier and stated that I would like a refund seeing as how they clearly cannot get this right, when a man (to whom I would presume the owner, and if it is a family owned restuarant, the father) interuppted me to shout at his wife "what's the problem!" she stated back, with me agreeing, all that had occured, but he cut both of us off to state "we heard before what you had order, and we've made it 2-3 times now!" to which I stared blankly at him and said "...exactly, so why isn't it correct yet?" My friend had come up to see if she could help with the situation as it was quite clear the owner was angered, as soon as she stepped beside me the owner grabbed her wrist and shook her hand that was holding the wrap and began yelling, both of us backed off immediately and I stated how appauled I was, we walked out (quite honestly in fear of where the situation was going) and have never returned. I can honestly say I've never had an experience like this, and although I'd love to be nice and attempt to excuse the actions that took place, on being swarmed with drunk people, what occurred was NOT okay, or acceptable. We have actually took the matter to the police and have since been awaiting a reply.
We always get the beef shawarmas. Nothing special, but tastes good. Very quick service. Always packed. If you look next door, the other workers at the rival shawarma place are playing cards. Last time I went, the building was for lease. Clearly, Shawarma Palace is dominating the downtown scene. Greatest shawarmas from their category. However, since trying Kabobgy (which has fresh meat grilled to order), I haven't been as enthusiastic about Shawarma Palace as before .. Not too mention, my dad's a picky eater, and doesn't like how the employees touch the lettuce, then the pickles, then this, then that, etc. Employees are very friendly though.
I LOVE this place. I always go for lunch here, when I'm downtown. The staff & owners are always very friendly & accomodating; portions are very generous. The salads are nice & fresh, the chicken is very well seasoned & tasty. I highly recommend the Shawarma Palace, & bring my friends here, often!
I want more and more and more! This place is by far my favourite restaurant. I just have to say it. Their grape leaves and tabouli are so good but this time I tried their baba-ganoush for the first time. It wasn't what I expected. When my Mom and I make it we char the eggplant so black and put in so much garlic it could knock you across the room and that's what I was expecting... but was delightfully surprised. Their charing is subtle. The baba-ganoush is so creamy and smooth with a hint of olive taste. Magnificent! I could never get enough of it. The falafel is fluffy and perfectly seasoned. No words to describe how good it is. This is the best Lebanese food I've had in years, possibly ever had.
