McCleery is nestled in the Southlands of Vancouver and is a fabulous course for a fabulous price. Bounded by tony riding estates and the Fraser River, McCleery is a calm oasis for a relaxing...or in my case not so relaxing...game of golf. The course is rewarding to the accurate golfer and punishing to the not so accurate golfer but in all ways its a lot of fun. If you show up in advance of your tee-time there is a fantastic driving range and the rates at the range are pretty reasonable. If you have time after your round the club house is great and offer a variety of food choices and of course a range of beverages to wash down your food. The patio is great and sitting out there you would never believe you are only 20 minutes from the bustling centre of the city. For a great round of golf at a great price head over to McCleery! Okay, I realize that there are not a tonne of public, and for that matter private, courses in the city but you could easily include any of the courses in the 'burbs and still call this the best course. Fraserview was once considered for the PGA tour and would have been used had the city let them lengthen a couple of holes. Oh well, perhaps this keeps this gem of a course a little less busy. Perched high up from the Fraser River you would never know you are smack dab in the middle of a major residential area of the city of Vancouver. Challenging and beautiful this course has another major thing going for it...the green fees. They are so reasonable it is shocking and particularly if you are playing with a junior the rates are very reasonable. The clubhouse is also excellent and offers a wide variety of food and drinks that you can enjoy on the patio while watching players come home on 18...for my money the most challenging hole on the course...but that may be because I lose a ball in the ravine every time I play there! We have been going to Jump since they opened and couldn't be happier with the experience they provide for our child. With carefully crafted programs, Jump ensures that they follow a steady progression in developing fundamental skills for your children. Physical awareness and body confidence are a primary focus to develop the fundamentals your child will need to participate not only in gymnastics but all sorts of other sports. They also have great staff and take a real interest in ensuring that their programs run smoothly. Not only do they have the structured programs but Jump also offers two services that I simply must mention. The first is their birthday parties. Our child's last birthday party was at Jump and a fabulous time was had by all. The 12 kids had 3 instructors who crafted a fun program of gymnastics, fun and games and the parents had the funky lounge to hang out and chat or observe their little ones from the viewing area. The second great thing that Jump offers are bi-weekly date nights in the middle and end of the month on Fridays. For a nominal sum, you can make reservations to drop your child off at Jump from 5-8pm for a fun night of gymnastics, games, crafts and bedtime stories. Meanwhile, you and your partner or date can go grab dinner or a movie in and around Yaletown or Gastown.
